Default L7915/7815 vs LM2940CT15/LM2990T15

I wan to replace bed for sound standard regulators L7815/7915 with better and more linear device. There isnīt much room for some discrete shunt regulators so I am asking your opinion about LM2940/2990 low drop regulators.
Or if you have better idea. I know LT1086 series is very good regulator , but I need a +/- 15V
