What is the 3rd pin for on 3-pin 'lytics? (quick answer needed)

I'm looking at a bundle of caps on Ebay, and they have three pins. What is the third pin for on such devices, and does it indicate they have special applications?

check with the manufacturer's data sheet -- for the Panasonic THS series it says "do not connect".

Depends on the cap..

I have one with 2 negative leads, but it is clearly labeled.

Case is connected to + (Is that always the case? Ill have to go test some others..)

I have a dual cap somewhere. Modern looking electrolytic, not an old style.
