Amp volume

Last summer i started learning a bit of electronics. Now im trying to find how to control the amp power. The effect i pretend is a volume button cuse im using the amp with a dvd, and the level 1 on dvd's volume is VERY loud. So i suppose i can control how loud it goes with a potenc. on the right place.

Anyone who could help i apreciate

Hi,
you can use a 2 gang potentiometer as a passive volume control without any electronics.
The input and output impedance are quite high using this method and with longer interconnects you will lose high frequency information.
Check the output impedance of your DVD player ( maybe about 1k ). the input impedance of your volume control should be about ten times this ( about 10k ). the maximum output impedance of this volume control will be just over 10k/4 (about 2k5).
If you use a 100k pot your output impedance will be about 25k.
Keep all your connections short (about 300mm to 600mm) and use coax for leads.
Look up passive preamp for more info. Start with elliot sound products.

Pick up a second hand preamp and be done with it.
