does anyone know where I can find a six channel volume control to make my own home thater preamp. my dvd player has six channel outputs and built in DD and DTS processers so I basically need a six channel preamp with a remote control volume control. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sorry I wasn't real clear I mean't like a six channel pot that I could build a passive preamp around, to go with the amps I plan to build.

Those are the only decently priced ones i found. There is a supplier in usa, builds them at almost three times the price as small series. Problem with thel - they don't ship to overseas. I got them shipped through my parents in germany. But - they are excellent - the pots, my parents as well |

Hi,
A disadvantage of ganged pots is imbalance at high attenuation. Some manufacturers try to select or trim tracks on their pots to improve their tracking. BUT with multi-channel pots this may be either expensive or impossible. The effect is that signals to different channels will sound off centre or in the wrong location at lower volumes and may change position as you adjust volume.

Hi,
you could also use a 6-channel microcontroller based relay attenuator which is controlled by a simple mono pot attached to the internal A/D of the microcontroller if you want to have a pot to control it. Or you can use two pushbuttons (up/down) and then can use a remote control for setting the volume. Unfortunately this solution is more expensive Jochen |

You can build a DIY 6 channel 12-steps attenuator using a cheap 6 deck switch - you will have better sound and tracking than any pot.

12 steps is not enough ( typicaly 33 dB ) for silent night listening
