I've sporadically seen in different finished DIY or upgraded amps/components, naked caps. The outer jacket was obviously removed purposely. What is the motivation behind this?
One example that comes to mind is Peter Daniel's finished Patek amp pictures on www.audiosector.com |

parasitic capacitance, I would suspect. ie, the unwanted kind. Electrostatic charge, etc. just a guess. The differences would be minor, at best, but..when you've taken care of everything else..then it's time to remove the sleeves.
Sometimes, think that grounding them..like grounding a speaker magnet system, might be the way to go. Also, the smaller the energy level, in mass terms, in the context of the use of the given capacitor, the larger the effect of removing the sleeve.

Or it could simply be for looks. Peter's amp is not just a musical device, it also has artistic appeal too.

So you cant see the brand
ie. use cheap caps and remove the sleeve and it looks fancier and more expensive. Just one reason. |

Hi,
I removed about 50 sleeves from my Roksan Caspian amp's caps and resoldered them all in a little cloer. Can't say which change brought about the effect, but I definitely preferred the new sound.

They look sexy when naked. And sound sexy too.
