Default Strip a UPS to use as an amp PS?

I just got to thinking... I have a couple of spare APC 1000VA UPSes.... They would have the parts that I would need for an amp power supply, would they not? The batteries are 2 12V in series, so that would be a perfect voltage, too.

Well, I don't have an amp yet. I was thinking gainclone, so that should be good, right? I'm not sure if it's dual rail, probably not, but I do have 2, so I could use each for the 2 rails.

Yeah works nicely, search for some of the threads I've posted in.

The expensive UPS's will have dual transformers, cheaper (lower VA) ones will just have one.

Either way you need to hook up two transformers in phase to create 14V -GND- 14V. Then rectify to around +/- 18.5V.

Dont know if you want to use the batteries at all, I just scrapped everything but the two transformers. They fit nicely into the case, powers 5 channel gainclone easy, could do at least 7 channels (700va per trans, 1400VA total).

I might go Class T, though. Tripath TA3020, perhaps.
