I have a Sansui TU-517 that I intend to modify. I can and have soldered small stuff since Boy Scouts - radio sets, amps etc, but really have been away from building anything electronic since.
I need a hobby so this is what I want to do, and learn while I'm at it. Here is a link to a list of caps to replace and some directions from FMTunerInfo.com: Tu-517/717 Mods And here are links to Schematics: Schematic - Left Schmatic - Right What I am hoping to learn is where it is best to use which caps (and why), and realize that there will probably be some discussion. I am particularly concerned with the caps that need to fit on the 'problem board' - the one hard to remove-replace as they seem to need to be rather small for their value. I actually have two 517's that I will mod and then work on a TU-9900, which I anticipate will be a bit tougher due to the op-amp instead of discrete structure of the 517. I have never worked with IC's before other than to plug them into their sockets... My System is an Acurus Act 3 7.1 Upgrade, OCM 500 Amp, Martin Logan Quests, Velodyne ULD-18 Crossed over @ 45HZ. I haven't built my HT room yet, so haven't filled out the rest of the system with ML's, just using Def Tech's and an Acurus 200X3 amp for center and surrounds - movies don't really count for me - stereo, and preferably analog does. I think I should be able to hear differences - I was 20/20 on a blind test with an un-upgraded Act 3 in listening to CD's played through the digital connection. Looking forward to any help you see fit to give - and thanks! Brad |
