What are your experiences with tanatlum caps for supply opamp? What is a break in period for this caps?

Just be sure to use a large voltage margin with tantalum.
Tantalum caps like to explode when run near thier voltage rating. (16V tantalum caps can explode for no apparent reason on 12V rails.) I'd make sure the caps are rated atleast 2x higher than the voltage they will be working on. As for break in,or sound.... sorry,I dunno. EDIT: I just remembered one scary situation I had with tantalum caps.. I was working on an inverter for a CCFL light,when a 16V rated SMT tantalum exploded right in my face (was running from a regulated +12V supply) and shot across the room,onto a stack of papers,which promptly caught fire! Luckily I got the fire out rather quickly,but it had already consumed half of the papers,and made a nice soot mark on the wall. |
