After searching on google and on this forum, I found it's a bit difficult to find good electret mics in Australia. ME sound used to have the Panasonic everyone talks about, but no more. You can get them shipped from Digikey, but it's quite expensive, and that defeats the purpose of a diy budget mic - you might as well get the Behringer ECM mic unless you are going to do it cheap!
I actually found a place with similar electets which have equivalent performance, suggested to me by Rod Elliott. For others who are looking in Australia: Hy-Q Melbourne, Australia (Clayton) The elecret is the FM-6B, it has a rajor flat response and they can tell you the exact sensitivity when you get it. There is also a PDF data sheet In $AU ... $4 postage (free if you pick up) and $2.90 each + GST I bought four. >>> ~$12 which replaces the $90 Behringer mic. I do have to make a preamp, but that was not included on the Behringer anyway. I post this as I know Aussies will be searching on this forum as I have been when they need to put together a cheap mic.
