Hi All
I've been reading and trying out a few circuits using electret microphone capsules. Anyways, I want to record music using them, because making a whole bunch of mics would be very cheap. Anyways, it turns out that they can't seem to handle the SPLs that are required for recording. For instants, the output clips when I clip the mic onto the accustic opening of my guitar, and play relatively loud. I would also like to clip them onto drums. Are there electret capsules availible that can handle the high SPL requirements, and how can I tell from the spec sheet if they don't specify the max SPL? Any help would be great, Pete |

Pete:
Also a Sennheiser KE 4-211-2 electret mic. capsule might be interesting for You (don`t know how much it is now, if I recall okay mine was about $30 some years ago). Search the web for more info. If You want to have a data sheet email me.

Mostly the FET in the electret is the botleneck... Look at my web site where I discribe a better pre-amp.

There are also Electret Capsules that are just the capsule and no fet which can be set up for much higher SPL"s , there are even a few 1 inch LDC capsules with no fet ......
