Hi all,
I've been looking in a few cable manufacturer's catalog recently, and a question came to my mind. They sell OFC microphone cable, the hot being made of Oxygene Free Copper, but the braid is made of classical copper. I don't want to discuss about OFC vs normal copper here, but... What's the use for an OFC hot wire, when the return path is made of classical copper? Alex

Physical durability?
I know when ripping apart 50-year-old military equipment, OFC centre + silver braid looks brand new, while regular cable centres 1/2 as old looks like it has sat in the rain for a few years, but the shield still conducts My point is, braid due to it's greater cross-sectional area, can handle longer periods of time and more physical abuse than the delicate core. |
