Best place to identify components, ICs,..ect?

I'm salvaging parts from old electronics and only about half of them even show up on google. I'd like to be able to use some of these for future project but I'm not even sure what some of them are. Should I just throw them away? Is there a place to look. Even If I could for out what the company codes are mabey that would help. Who makes SEC parts?

I need something like that too... I mean I try to identify some older/exotic components too. Anyone? Some sort of website or app?

yeah I use google as well..


Often the parts have an extra letter at the end that specifies tolerance or something similar. So removing that extra letter can help.

Well, I somewhat found an answer to my/our question. I went on Fairchild semiconductors site and tried to cross-reference the part # I had to leave off the last digit, but it came up with replacements. That should help in some cases.

I often end up using Datasheetarchive. Google hits are usually someone selling the component rather than the datasheet.

I find that even the semiconductor manufacturers seem to forget their old products fast. I had a Toshiba transistor which i found a toshiba replacement for via the japanese toshiba obsolete site. Their english site didn't contain that inormation!?

i have had great sucess searching for the product on RS components and downloading the datasheet from them. the only catch is that you will only find datasheets for current production items which they sell.(which is quite alot)
