Default Non Polar Capacitors

Hi Folks,
Pretty new to electronics just a pretty simpe question...
Does anyone know of any very high end non polar audio caps (around the 22pf - 33pf) range (Polypropolene???)

Plus are Vishay (Polypropolene) orange drop caps non polar???

Thanks.

Yes, the orange drops are non-polar. www.diycable.com stocks some caps that will get up in to your range (polyprops) designed for audio, or you can search for any non-inductively wound poly caps in www.mouser.com. Solen, available from www.partsexpress.com has polyprops available in large sizes, and www.angela.com has poly in oil caps in that sort of size, IIRC. Also search ASC oil for large motor run caps on ebay.

Hello,
Any Idea if the X2 mains rated polyproylene caps would be ok for input caps?
Cheers
Steve

Well, IIRC, they're non-inductive (or at least largely so) so that's good for the audio purpose, but as to how they sound, you've got me, I've only used them for their intended purpose and in power supplies. Input caps are frequently so small, I'd be inclined to go with a known good..... in my own tube pre, I used a 10 nF silver mica, which are excellent for audio, when they fit.

Hello,
At the moment im building Marcello Pellerano's headphone version of the Zen, which calls for a 4.7uF (around about) input cap, so silver mica's are definitely out of the question!
Cheers

Well, look at the impedances involved. What sort of load is it going to be feeding? If it's >1M, as many tube inputs are, you can likely use a tiny cap in place of the 4.7uF

Hahaha- I was thinking of a little SE tube zen amp. This value seems reasonable, I bet you'd be okay as low as 1uF, but certainly an SM isn't appropo.

Unless there is something wrong with the letters on my monitor, the original poster asked about 22pf - 33pf caps.

So, in answer, silver mica or polystyrene are the best choices.

Hahahhaa- I was just telling my wife how people's expectations make them blind idiots sometimes.... I was thinking of uF from the original post, not pF. For that tiny value, silver mica is a GREAT affordable choice.
