Stumbled across this in my search for The Perfect Capacitor:
Dearborne Electronics Filmlytic Capacitor Not only do these capacitors seem compact, they are available in a voltage range from 600 VDC to 1800 VDC (transmitter tube buffs take note!). Capacitance ranges are 200-400uF for the 600V variety, to 18-42uF for the 1800V variety. Largest case height is about 5 inches. Dielectric is probably metallised polysomething. |

I believe Michael Percy sells them:
http://www.percyaudio.com I found some 100 uF @ 2200V film/oil? caps with very low DA, at a local electronics shop. Surplus stock originally intended for a defibrillator. I used three on an unfinished tube amp chassis (ran out of budget before I could buy the output transformers). Mine are unvented, and thus may not be all that safe to use on a continuous basis, even highly derated (550VDC max) |
