All cathode bypass caps are evils. However, sometimes, particularly in DC coupled amps, we need them. I have experimented with Black Gate, Nichicon Muse, Elna SilmicII …. I am not totally happy with any of these. Any suggestions in the 30V to 150V range, 330uF-470uF? Caps that are more neutral (sound wise) and not euphonic.

Solen do some 200uF PP caps, available from Speakerbits for $A98 ea. VTV have some 100uF oils at $US50 ea. I've also seen some 330uF PP's somewhere in my travels, and when I find the link, I'll post it. I do recall they were more expensive than a pair of Solens though. Mind you, all of these caps are big.
Or you could eliminate the problem totally, and buy a nice Crown amp

Thanks Brett. I have tried Metallised PP before. Not really my cup of tea.
I am experimenting with ICs in a line stage. So far, I have found no reason to change from tubes. However, my experiments are continuing. Mohan |

Not all PP caps are metalised, the good ones are film and foil but you'll pay thru the nose for them.

When I studied Economics some 40 years ago Air, Water and Sunlight were classified as FREE GOODS. So I may have to opt for air dielectric!!
Has anyone tried Black Gate BG-NxHiQ? Something that is more affordable? Mohan |
