....any ideas on this? What I'm trying to do is use is an old computer that can control 20 or so 12 volt relays, that is sound activated. I'm trying to create a light show for a production and thought this would be the cheapest way to do it. Thanks.

Does it have to be computer controlled? You could just use a cascaded "light organ" type circuit to trigger relays with sound.

check out http://discolitez.com/circuits-32deluxe.shtml there's a circuit for controlling 32 lights with a parallel port. they have a winamp plugin that you can set up to turn the lights on with the musik. the circuit is not that complicated, but making it is a lot of work. instead of using triacs, hook up some uln2803a's to the 74374s, and then you can hook up relays to the uln2803a. i have built the circuit, and it works. if you decide to build it and need any help, contact me.
