Default IR MOSFETS -- part # deciphering

Is there any pattern to how they number them? I'm new to these. Just when I think I get it, something throws me off.

Examples: After the IRF, there's sometimes a P. I thought originally it was for P type, but nope. IRFP240 is N channel.

Sometimes at the end there's an N, sometimes not.
IRFP044 vs. IRFP044N have different specs.

Is there something that makes some of them a family? X40 (IRF240, IRF140) and others X44?

I thought the P stands for plastic package in case the non P behind IRF - types come in TO3. It looks to me first number is voltage correlated and second chip size?

IR nomenclature is rather complex..best bet is to go to their website for product information..

Simple form:

IRL is logic level input
IRF is generic
IRFC is chip form
IRC is hexsense
IRFIP is fullpak isolated
IRLI is logic level fullpak
IRLZ..IRFP...what a headache..goto website.

9000 series is p channel

in general, die size is one of seven sizes.

Z, 1,2,3,4,5 and 6. 6 is largest.

voltage:easiest by example:

IRF 130: die 3, 100 volt
IRF 230: die 3, 200 volt
IRF 430: die 3, 500 volt

so, the 100 column is voltage. the 10's column is die size.ones is whatever they decide to use it for (i guess)

for size 3 die:

034 60 volt
130 100
230 200
234 250
330 400
430 500
C30 600
E30 800
F30 900
G30 1000

For the rest of the product line, it starts to get complicated..

Cheers, John
