I have a chip amp that I built out of spare parts. the transformer I used is out of an older amp from bestbuy or something. anyway, I left it on for the last week or so because of a turn-on thump and i noticed that the trans is puttinf off a bit of heat. I estimate about 45-50 deg C , hot, but no way near too hot to touch.
Is this normal for an E-I transformer? BTW, I measured the output to be about 16-0-16 volts ac. and it is powering a lm3886 and an active lowpass crossover. |

I have heard that cheaper EI type transformers do this.
I know the ones in my GC get really hot too, you can still touch them, but they are hot (and smelly). |
