Does anyone out there have any experience of replacing the LM318 op-amp?

Are most of the popular audio op-amps 9BB 604, 627, AD811, 825 (with adoptor), LM 6171, 7171, etc straight drop in replacements?

More to the point, are there any clearly incompatible ones I should avoid?

LM318 can be replaced but beware of if extra pins are used. Can you show us a schematics we surely can tell. In general, very fast opamps can cause problems in design which aren't made for these. You can also have problems with bias currents compensation, offset trimming, feed forward networks etc. many things can go wrong if you don't know what you are doing. A schematics is very helpful.

The AD811 is a current-feedback op-amp. This is certainly not a drop-in replacement for a voltage-feedback one!
