non polar capacitors

Hi to u all,
can a non polarised electrolytic capacitor be used in the place of a polarised one with the same specifications of capacitance and voltage ratings? Is it safe to use a non polarised cap as a filter cap in a linear power supply? Awaiting your comments, thanks in advance.

Yes, though it might more ESR. I've done this to minimize assembly errors with inexperienced builders.

Rework is so expensive and trouble-prone, that you want to avoid it as far as possible.
Other pcb damage often results when trying to fix a problem.
