Ideal I/V resistor ?

Hi Monte: Your comment “This effect is purely at low frequencies, practically around 50 to 200Hz as a rough guess” Is really more like DC and up.

When developing the ATS2 is where we went almost all SMD in analog. I had a problem with the DAC output signal. The current to voltage stage measured great @ 1 kHz. When I ran a THD sweep from 10Hz and up the THD% was bad. I thought that it was oscillating until I put my finger on the feedback resistor and the THD went down. The resistor 1206 was running about 50mw and it was a 25ppm part. Keep the power low and use the best parts. Duke

Wire wound resistor has a low noise level that important parameter in audio.
You can try experimenting with non inductive Ayrton Perry versions: Mills MRA05 or Ohmite.
Mixing wire wound with thin films in circuit is one interesting option.
Vishay bulk foil is OK, but not always ideal.
Make point-to-point prototype is successful way to do, non body have your ears sensibility
and a particular audio system. Have a nice day :)

Hello Henderson

I read many articles about resistors and great one of Ed Simmons as well.
Low noise is desirable in audio applications.
Please try different technology resistors by Yourself so after you get more builder intuition what sound goood :)
Think wire wound is frequently under estimated and people don't experiment.
For minimalist circuits they are fantastic. I like it Mills.
On the right photo of my class A amplifier point-to-point prototype with different resistors under test.
Have a nice day
