I have a handfull of caps thats rated 40V. Now id like to run 60V rails, can i couple 2 of them in series and get the equalent of a 80V cap with twice the ESR ??
you will get some double voltage half capacitance caps. So if you want double voltage and same capacitance you need to parallel two of the two in series caps and thus need four.
Isn't it important to parallel the series caps with resistors to properly split the load? I read that somewhere once... Otherwise the top cap sees most of the voltage and still runs the risk of operating beyond its rating.
