Last year my Tek scope broke, well I could have fixed it. Well I did not because you can buy a nice Tek scope on EBAY for only $240. Yep, I purchased a Tek 475A, it's condition is like new.

check it www.ebay.com search for Tektronix , you can't beat a Tek scope even a old one.

till,

Next time get your self a Tek 7854 with the amp that has a 10uv sensitivity.

Just having a nose around at the moment.
Thus far seen a Techtronics 2465 300meg scope,reserve £260.
Seems probes manual etc are extra.
No doubt the price will go lots higher, the buyer says the unit is worth £1000+

Views?

nothing against, this will be a nice TEK7000 collection. Unfortunately prices at ebay.de are much higher than at ebay.com I often look for interesting plugins as the 7A22,7B85, multimeter or counter, but over here they often are really expensive

In fact, what i miss most often are more probes!

At Foertig they also sell 475s, but not at that good price than yours.

No, the price of a 2465B in excellent condition is around £700. Don't pay more. You do need 400MHz to look at digital waveforms properly. Don't buy the tek probe 6137; the HP 500MHz probe is better, with a smoother waveform. Lots of ringing on the 6137.

Best way to look is to solder lread of correct impedamce to the circuit board.

Hi fmak
Even £700 is a bit steep for me at the moment, as I have no idea
how much real use the unit will get.
It would be a nice toy though
It it clear from your comment, that a good deal of bandwidth
is required to measure the signals with this digital lark..
This does seem to preclude cheap scopes!

I do not even have any idea of how to measure these circuits,
I presume I also need to obtain some sort of 'thingy' to supply
relevant signals etc..

Arrrgh.. I know so little and it could cost quite a bit of ££££ to
learn.

Any other makes of scope that you can recommend?

Hmmm, I seem to be moving off topic with the above... oops

Unfortunately, the cost of transport plus the possibility of VAT and Imnport Duty makes it inadvisable to buy from the US.

Also most on ebay.com don't offer any form of guarantee.

Hmm ,
400mhz scopes don't come cheap [did not really expect them to..]
There does not seem to be a whole lot of choice [Tektronix ] on the Uk ebay at the mo.

Surely Tektronix are not the only good make out there?

Most Japanese scopes here are 100MHz or less. 200-400MHz analog scopes are rare except teks. You can try the tek 7 series system which is older and may be cheaper, but you may have problems due to age.

I doubt you really need the 400MHz. Also in case a scope (TEK) is labeled 200MHZ, this does not mean if you apply a signal with more MHZ you see nothing, it also is displayed with some more error. And, have a look for probes, do you really want to buy a good 400MHZ probe ? at some speed the probe becomes more expensive than a good used scope. Downsize your aim to <= 200MHZ, get a 453/465/475 scope if you like it smaller, or any fast enough 7000 mainframe, a timebase, and one of the bettet Y plugins. This is affordable, and very good quality. I doubt you will reach much better with an analog scope. At university i had to work with a digital scope, and they may be faster (but then expensive and need expensive probes) but i did not like the handling and the picture they made. Keep in mind what gear was made in the 70´s and 80´s , i suspect also later, using these scopes. You develop more advanced stuff?

Tektronix may not be the only, but you get good (best?) quality for your money.
