Resistor question

Hi!

If your power amp says min 8 ohm but you don't set it above half on the trim pot will that be ok with a 4 ohm speaker?

I mean isn't that trim pot a resistor?

No basically. The 8 ohms is the maximum load (lowest impedance) it can drive. What trim pot do you mean?

Its the two ones on the front, but i guess your right, they are not at the last end of the wiring.

The measurement shows 7,4 ohm on the tweeters, i'm going to use the amp directly to them in an active system. May be a little risky?

That's fine. You've measured the resistance which is often a little lower than the impedance. A couple of ohms lower is very unlikely to cause problems

I agree with ScottJoplin.

Also, the impedance of '8 ohm' speakers actually can be quite different at different frequencies, so I wouldn't worry too much about a bit of 'mismatch', especially if you are not driving your amplifier to its maximum output power...for most amp and speaker combinations.

What are it's specifications ?
What are you trying to do ?

No, the load on the amp remains the same, it still won't like the 4 ohm load

No, it's dependant on how you are connecting the speakers, it looks like the 4 amps are being bridged into stereo for a 4 ohm load. What do you want to connect?

Well the idea was this, Yamaha MX-35 have
44w in stereo, min load 4 Ohm
22w in 4 ch, min load 8 Ohm,

The idea was when in 4 ch, you can load it with 4 Ohm if you put the attenuation at half?

You've got it the wrong way round, stereo 8 ohm, 4 channel 4 ohm.

Viper, the volume control on an amplifier is not a power control, it is an input sensitivity control. If you turn that knob down, I can just sing louder into the mic and we will be just as loud as before out the speakers.
