I usually duplicate part of a circuit to use for selecting transistors for noise, but wondered if there was something more standardized. There seems to be a dearth of info on the topic both in print and on the 'net. One of the Ott noise books has a pretty good mathematical description, but little practical advice. Are there any standard configurations for noise testing? I know there's an EIA standard of some sort, but no free copies.

I would build an simple amplifier at similar Ic to the working conditions and low source resistance for base bias. Run at a high gain of 40dB and then further amplification to the meter is straightforward. Everything in a metal box and much attention to filtering the power supply
