I'm in process of building a DIY project and can't find anyone what carries audio component enclosures. I'm looking for a black metal enclosure 17"w x 2"h X ~10" deep. (or 1U high @ 1.75"). I an looking for a case WITHOUT rackmount wings.
Can anyone recommend an online retailer? |

This one does not have the rack mount ears. It is, however, only 15.75" wide.

I looked into par-metal as well, but what really annoyed me about their boxes was the 16" width, when all of my audio gear is 17" wide. You can special order the wider units, but then the price rises to the point that it's not terribly interesting anymore.
In the end, I purchased rackmount cases at Jameco (www.jameco.com), which, to my pleasant surprise, can be assembled without the rack faceplate, resulting in a nice, 17" box. The boxes are structurally weaker without the faceplate, mind you -- I ended up stiffening mine with aluminum channels. - Fromage |
