I unfortunately bought two expensive PCM1704K dacs from polida2008. They were fake! Not working at all.

I sent them back. I got a replacement. DEAD again. Shipped then all back for refund: first time parcel was sent back to Europe. Months passed... they gave me another address and I shipped again. With difficulties (I contacted China post for help) it was delivered this time. Soon they wrote that chips were soldered and damaged! .... these are SMDs and were professionally desoldered and delivered exactly as received.

Accidentally I replaced them by others bought in Germany and they worked perfectly.
Also got another couple for another project in USA and they were also fine. Accidentally.

Avoid polida2008 carefully!

All parts sold on Ebay are fake. Sure, there are some needles in the haystack, but those can be excluded from this rule.

There are MANY fake parts (Sellers) on Ebay, but it's a little unfair to say "ALL"
It's true that Nearly all Toshiba devices are probably fake
The problem is not knowing who to trust.

I bought a 'Pass' style enclosure from an Asian seller who specialises in this type of thing "WOLF something/something"is the Ebay name. After paying his invoice which included correct postage as stated in the listing, he emailed me demanding an Extra $15 before he would send it. -- Then Didn't send it when I refused.

Conversely, there is a parts seller who is also a member of this website who is excellent and is well regarded, Umut Fidan -ebay shop
Paradise of Hi end audio components | eBay Stores
(he clearly states that it takes 10 days to fulfil order, plus delivery time)

The Ebay seller Jim's Audio shop is also trustworth (I have heard on this site ) EXCEPT he seems to have no understanding of the term 'CopyRight'!! He openly sells knock-off PCB's of Mr Nelson's products --- My thought is that for this reason he should be left with his stock and no buyers.

I'm quite new to the website so am not sure if this exists already - But would some kind of 'Trusted/Untrusted Buyers' thread be possible?
Of course this could be missused by sellers - but evidence based reporting (eg Serial numbers that wipe-off cans with a rub of spirit) and Moderator scrutiny -- Or even just a Trusted list (if litigation is lurking-as always)

I know that typical 'Small Parts' are well priced and easily available from the Trusted Distributors, but THERE are/can be substantial savings from buying 'at source' ie Asia. Especially since the Government there obviously totally subsidise the International Postal rates
(I know I stated Asia then referred to "Their Government" --I'm trying not to racial stereotype)
Happy Christmas and a Happy DIYHIFI New Year to All,

That would mean you've ought every single part there is?

I must be lucky in that more than 80% of what I do buy are genuine. And when they're not, I've always got recompense. Never had my money not returned.

But then again, it's a question of what you do buy. If it is not made any more, it's a good chance that the Asian part will be fake. If it is an audio-specific part in great demand, there's a good chance it will be fake. If it is one-tenth the quantity price for the manufacturer, it is fake.

Because sometimes buyers can be misled by a few sellers and distributors is no reason to call an entire site with thousands of sellers fake.

I purchased some 2SK30 jfets while back from the ebay seller polida, asked for pictures of said jfets and received what was pictured, tested them and they turned out fine with some variance in the idss values compared to the real 80's Toshiba 2sk30a jfets I had on hand.

Also bought 5 pairs of IRFP9240/240 mosfets and had no problems.

Now the TO3 On Semi MJ15024's I purchased was a different story as they turned out to be evident fakes which I got a full refund on.

HI Ultra --- The place seems like such a Utopian Society ;-)

I know little of the international laws regarding physical and intellectual property rights.
But, I think in exchange for the bountiful altruism of Nelson Pass, we should make an exception to this convenient 'Get Around' for cheap products and leave the 'Pass' parts on their Asian shelves -- They only stock them because (probably) predominantly it's followers of Nelson's work that buy them

I agree. Jim's Audio is about the only Asian seller I trust. I purchased some Toshiba K170BL/J74BL from them and they were all the "real deal".

For people that are considering buying from Polida, the unbelievably low price on their transistors, ICs, etc. should be a RED flag.

I've learned the hard way just like others here.

I am another happy Jim's Audio parts buyer
