Default Over-sizing capacitors...what's the effect?

I am building a "quick" stereo monobox. I've recycled a number of parts from old electronics, but can't find 470uF caps anywhere...including that retail store so many people loathe.

What would be the effect if I used 1000uF caps? Would I risk damaging anything?

Not much difference, no. Recycled electrolytics is a dangerous game, though- they deteriorate with age. New ones from Mouser or Digikey would cost less than a cup of coffee.

Depends where in the circuit. But its likely going from 470 to 1000 nothing bad will happen.

If used in a crossover the crossover frequency will change.

What exactly is a "stereo monobox"?

Are you building two monophonic amplifiers?
Perhaps you meant to say monoblocks?

Are these tube or solid state?

The caps are in the power supply then?

In most situations its not a big deal.

In SMPS it cane be a very big deal (your SMPS turns into a very nice oscillator).
