I've searched all around, and I’ll bet it's here (or somewhere on the net, but heck if i can find it)
I’m robbing parts from some computer power supplies I’ve had laying around The connecter that the power cord plugs into is one of these parts. But I have a question about something that is hooked up to it inside the power supply. There is a funny flat rectangular capacitor (yellow if that matters), that has a resistor soldered under it. That thing is connected across the hot and neutral leads. What does this do? And should I leave it there for my power supply? I was thinking it might prevent some sort of power plug in pop or something but basically I have no idea.

It's there...to reduce line RF or interference or something...the resistor is for safety to discharge the cap...or it might be a design..I'm not too sure...I haven't got a problem with it..I keep it there...mine is heatshrinked...so no fear of it going boom...

It is the other half of the filter network formed by the input inductors in the switching supply. It won't hurt to leave it.
