I notice that Constant Current diodes are becoming unavailable thru the "major" US suppliers - Mouser / Digikey / Newark / Allied et al.
I need some 0.5 ma (E501/1N5291; 1.0 ma (J505/1N5298; 2.2ma (CR220/1N53??
4.7ma (J511/1N5313 or 1N5314).
Any suggestions - THANKS
Charles

CENTRAL SEMICONDUCTOR still makes them and if you need 5000 check the link.
They do sell some values in single quantities.

CPC in the UK stock a range of Semitec CRD-E series current regulating diodes - look on line:

search for Order codes:
SC08501 through to SC08507 for the 7 components they have.

CCS diodes
100% with you ;why spend $5 plus S&H fee while you can have it for $.3 .
How about using a J-fet and resistor...might do the job you need
