i went to a local parts shop and asked for bc640 639 but instead got k922 a1266y and k732 c3198y. theyre not equivalents are they?

The 2SA1266 and 2SC3198 would drop into their place, sorta, but they have lower voltage and current ratings compared to the originals. SO depends on what the application is and how much overspec the original parts were.

Not really: they are low noise, low current, low voltage signal-type transistors, whereas the BC's are medium current, medium power, medium voltage types.
