In my case those properties weren't very important but these "hard" components have problems with expansion. Luckily we (at work) have never had any problems with temperature variations and cracks in the solder joints. Our biggest problem is elektrolytic caps which dries out, but the never brake down too soon.

If we talk precision caps I think that SMD has it's difficulties.
