what to look for - diodes

Hi,

I'm looking for good diodes to use as rectifiers, upto 8a.

I've seen people reccomending schottkys, hexfreds and mur8**,

So what's good?

Say for digital circuits, tube heaters etc.

I have found two different types which I have read are good

http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/11398.pdf

and also

http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/13000.pdf

but also at farnell I have found cheaper diodes which have faster recovery times - as low as 15ns.

what's the view?

Thanks
Raja

Hi Raj,

For tube heaters I use Schottky's. Apart from being quiet, they also have very low forward voltage drop, which is an advantage as there is less voltage loss, and much less heat generated.
Farnell do some TO220 insulated tab types. I forget the number. These are easier to mount.

Cheers,
