Is the MJ15003 the same as rca 40409 transistor?

In the same way a Ford F-150 full size pickup truck is the same as a Sears lawn tractor with cart.
No they are not the same. The 40409 is a small TO39 NPN. That particular type came with an integral heatsink. SO if you look for the NTE equivalent (which does NOT have the heatsink), which electrically is similar, it will usually burn up. There are still people selling the 40409 (and PNP 40410) new old stock. The basic rating on the 40409 is 3W 0.7A 90V Gain 50-250 at 150ma. The MJ15003 is a large TO3 type. The basic ratings for the MJ15003 are 250W 20A 140V Gain 25-150 at 5A. As long as you consider the electrical specs, and include enough heat sink, there are numerous substitutes for the old 40409, but the MJ15003 would not be one of them. |
