remote control unit

Unfortunately he died before he finished all the details. Many of you may have known him. His name was Bill. Anyhow, he put a remote control unit in the preamp. It is hooked up, but I do not know what kind it is and how I can get the information i need to make it function. Take a look at the picture i attached. Wondering if any of you can help out. Thanks in advance.
