Hello, this is my 1st post on this forum, All though i have read many great topics etc that you've all wrote or replied to, OK I'm upgrading my 20yr old J.D.I- PRE-AMP+PSU, I have a couple of questions to ask the forum; (1): I have the original 20yr old ALPS Blue Velvet potentiometer + was thinking of up-dating it???. I've looked at the TKD range ALSO I've been recommended to use STEP ATTENUATORS,+ I have looked at KHOZMO 48 STEP+ ALMA 24 STEP units??? I've been told that the problem with some step units, Is that you can find that your in between two volumes too low OR to high??? + to stick with VOL-POTS???, So which volume control is best + what makes+models can be recommend???

I've heard good things about stepped attenuators. I don't know though, haven't tried. I do know that you can select the step size, so the "in-betwen volume" problem can be avoided entirely. They can be relatively inexpensive to try ...
P.s. - welcome to the forum |

hi again,
The stepped one works fine you can find them on ebay ,I couldn't buy the switches and 1% res for the price I payed assembled and tested, I went a step further and ran a 5 volt dc supply through them into a crc circuit like lightspeed,Uriah and others are using,I like the graf of the stepped with the led controled resistor,I like the sound ,if your volume controls are not worn out ,leave them you can also spray deoxit or cramolin in them if thier not sealed that stuf works wonders on any connection,I got rid of as many connections as posible and use shielded wires,it made a big difference in the mids and highs sonics, and yes it's not a quick thing to change out equipment, but I am to where I am happy with it as is so It's not a hassel to hard wire point to point. Have fun!!! |
