Hi, I am using an NTE238 as a replacemnet for a Motorola MJ12005 high voltage regulator. It is in a TO-3 case in the power supply for a Counterpoint preamp. Is there anyway to test if the regulator is good without destroying it.
Thanks, Ron |

I would like to test it out of the circuit as I keep blowing a 5 watt resistor as I bring the Variac up to 90 volts. Trying to isolate the cause.

just place it before the variac, it should limit the current (glow brightly) when it encounters a problem... so the excess power has somewhere else to go to rather than your project.
