Default Buying Stock amplifier in India

Hello to all you fellow members from India. I will be on vacation to India and wanted to gift an amplifier to my parents in Bangalore. I wanted to buy a simple integrated stereo amplifier and which is of a decent quality. Don't know whats in the market and also not sure which shops to look at. As I said the amp needn't be of audiofile quality but a decent one. I know that sonodyne, norge, cosmic woodstock etc. use to make some decent stuff. Are these companies still producing? I would appreciate if any one here could give me pointers as to where to buy and which ones are good specifically in Bangalore.
thanks,
Dinesh

Hi Dinesh

Greetings from Bangalore..You may want to look at a company that also offers decent after sales service. AFAIK Onkyo also offers two channel amps, and has mini systems with player and amp.

You need to look at your budget, and also decide what kind of player you are buying-CD/tape/DVD. Cosmic is history, so is Norge. When are you here in Bangalore?

George

Default Hi-Fi equipment in India

Hi Dinesh(?),
India has come a long way rather quickly. You can get most world class brands locally. These are all legal imports supported or owned by the parent company. Pricing is often as good as or better than overseas prices for the popular models.
Go to www.avmaxmag.com and you can look at a partial listing of the equipment. The mag ( AV Max) has a much larger list in all issues I think. I can scan any category that you might want to look at. Printed pricing is usually a bit higher than street pricing. Usually about 10 to 15 % higher I think.
Bangalore , Mumbai and Delhi probably have dealers for most brands. Chennai has some - not all.
Cheers.
