Can you use a door bell transformer for anything audio related aside from using it as a PS transformer for low wattage applications?
What would happen if you were to close the secondary and use it as a PS choke? Is that just asking for trouble? |

Think of them as just low quality 24VAC transformers. You can use one for a preamp, IF you find one that doesn't buzz. It's not unusual for them to buzz or develop a buzz in a few years.
You can't use them for a DC choke for the same reason you can't use a more conventional transformer there either: DC will saturate the core.
