Where to get Cheap Transformers?

I am in need of tranformers. These are normally one of the biggest expenses in making your own DIY items, and I would like to get a few of different types and of certain dimensions. I am using Plitron Xformers in my preamp, but would like to know where to get some other cheaper xformers with less lead time. Need a 115 v 24-0-24 (or close to this) for a gainclone (200 to 400 VA), some low power ones for low level signals, some medium power ones for an adjustable DC supply. Anyway, in the interest of collecting links (other than the typical digikey, mouser, etc...) I have posted a few below with my comments.

Unfortuneatly the partsexpress prices are about the same as buying direct. Delivery is probably quicker.

I don't think there is a regular source for cheap toroids. There is a surplus shop near me that has shelves full of IE transformers but not one toroid. One shows up on e-bay occasionally but it probably doesn't have the values one is looking for.

You are looking at the U.S. price list, not the Canadian list, right? This is what I did the first time I went there. The lead times are longer, because they only make it after you order. That can be a pain I realize.

I just looked it up, their price for a 625VA transformer is $66.02 U.S., the P.E. Avel price is 65.88 and the www.toroid.com price for one (rated at 670VA) is 107.30...

In that respect, maybe Plitron isn't so bad considering they are new.

P.E. has GREAT customer service.

They have toroids up to 750VA for $60. I've never ordered one of these for them. I have dealt with them in my "professional life" and they are very good to work with.

I have bought from them in the past, and have had good experience. Occasionally, they stock toroids.
