Parts in Mumbai (India)

Does any one know where to buy good aluminum chassis in Mumbai for diy amp.Other wise i was thinking of getting aluminum panels cut according to size from whole sheet.

Also good quality toroidal transformer, if any one has got it made , pls tell the rates you got it made.

I have put link for other thread of DIYers clubed for parts @ mumbai. check the link. i think cabinet is discussed there. if u find one pl, link the specific post.

it is used for soldering smd chips with very close pins such as tas 5630, it is good dont know cost details. did you get any rates.

Dear Viki and Roushan,

To the best of my knowledge, Solder paste is used with smds. and low temperature smds.

a stencil is prepared which has cuts where the pads on smd PCB appears. Stencil is placed over pcb and solder paste is smeared over the stencil. The open part which is having solder pads are covered with this solder paste. this solder paste has solder flux and powder of solder. later the stencil is removed.
components are placed ( stick) the board is passed to the hot air flow/ oven. where the solder paste melts and smds get soldered to board.

this is very good for QFN packs.

Yes the procedure you just explained is correct, and a very good way of working with smd.
They can even be soldered with regular solder iron and solder paste, But it needs lt needs lots of practice. Not something a first timer can try.the trick lies in applying heat properly without touching the components. many diyer's are doing this way without problem, But they are all experienced and have worked with smd's many times.

Any way i am on my way to making B500 by apex audio.thts why i am selling my unused goods. Yo pave way for this amp. hope it happens soon.

Thanks Aucosticraft for the explanation. It is really helpful.
Also for the addresses of SMD supplier. It is always
good to get a definite direction. I will contact one
these suppliers when I need more SMD.

Viki: The work on aluminum is a difficult job as I said before.
I got several sheets of different thicknesses purchased
from the area near Bhuleshwar, Mumbai just before
the utensil market on the right when you come from the
Muhammad Ali road side. I do not know where one can
get minute cuts done. These I did myself using saw and
drill. But I did not need anything fancy. I would suggest, if
you want to do the work yourself, then purchase the
magic tool called `dremel'. You can do anything
with it.

Regarding the parts you are selling, I just finished a
big project and now designing a phono preamp.
For the time being I am happy and already got
lots of parts in my stock. So do not need now. Thanks
for the offer. I am sure somebody else will be
interested.

hello Roushon,
can you show what projects you have completed,
dedicated threads for diy amplifier or speaker or any other are vere rare in india.
may be we could start a new thread on it.
My work in progress on B500 Amp by apex audio.
I have fifnished my floorstanders , but now i think i will modify it.
We can share our experiences.

Good Day

Hi Viki
The following are the threads I created for my project. It
took a long time as I did not have much time. The chassis I made
was 22inches x 15inches in size. There are four toroidals, four amps
(LM3886), remote control receiver, buffer circuit, soft start, delay power
on circuit, 64 step attenuator,... etc. It became very big as you can see
from the chassis size.

It is a silent amp, I feel I am lucky that I got it correct at first attempt.
It plays on the MJ King's open baffle I made....

But the above threads do not contain the final PCB designs or the picture of
the amp which I thought of uploading sometime.

Common Mode Choke

Does anyone know where can I find common mode choke
(2mH) for mains filtering? I salvaged one from a computer
SMPS and took it to a coil winding shop in Lamington
road in Mumbai. He is asking Rs 195/- a piece. It is too
much as the SMPS itself is about Rs 700/-. Is it
available ready made anywhere in Mumbai?

A picture is attached.

195/- is VERY reasonable for a one-off handmade coil.

If you think that's too much, buy an SMPS and scrap it for the toroid.

p.s. make sure he has the right core.

Thanks Yajna! In fact I thought of purchasing some
discarded smps from Lamington road for the
choke.

Anyway, if anybody is interested the name of the choke
maker is `Disco Winding works' 384 Dongre Bldg. 2nd
Flr. Lamington Road, Mum-7, +91 22 23860318
as this is the purpose of this thread.

Thanks Aucosticraft for the caution. I did tell him that
it is ring type ferrite core. Is it enough or there is some
variety of ferrite also which is suitable for suppression
choke?

Roushon

No, Here is an example of what I wanted to say.

But, don't go into depth unless its necessary. it depends where exactly where is the component used. can you tell me the application pl ?
