Hello,
Has anyone bought transistors or ICs from the Chinese/HK sellers from Ebay ? Over the years, I bought a lot of things on Ebay including from China and Hong Kong and I didn't have any problems. However, I'm reading all kinds of scare stories about fake transistors bought on the Internet. For example look at this link: 2 pcs of IRFP450 Power N-Channel MOSFET 14A 500V on eBay (end time 22-Oct-10 21:55:44 BST) The seller has a very good feed-back, so should I trust him ? What is your experience with active components from Ebay ? |

I have bought MOSFETs from ebay before, but you have to be wise. I would not buy those from that seller - the parts originate in the US so I would not trust a Chinese source, and I find their claim to be a Canadian company a bit odd. The price is about right for a genuine part.

They do have a canadian address etc.
I would think that a registered company was easy to trace. Andy .

Even if the company is American, it's quite possible that the products are manufactured in China (or Asia), right ?

As far as I'm aware all IR fab is in the states or Mexico, which also rings true for a lot of the major quality American semi brands. Fairchild's Korean plant is possibly the only exception, with a few dotted around India.

If I were you I'd buy more than you needed and destructively test a couple when they arrive. Test them electrically, or just crack them open. The size of the die should be able to give you a good indication of whether they're fake or not.

Yes, but just about everything gets sent to China for assembly into products.

In the end I didn't buy those FETs, but some TL082 op. amps.:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=250703302486 I hope at least those will be genuine ! If not genuine, at least of similar performance with the genuine ones .If anyone has experience, either positive or negative, with buying parts on EBay or Internet, let us hear it. |
