Hi ,
I like to upgrade the 4 1N5404 (400V e 3A) diodes in the power supply unit of my Jolida Tube CD player. Here a photo from inside: http://www.pro-software.it/photo6.jpg My idea is use: Fairchild Stealt ISL9R460PF2 (4A 600V TO-220) with trr < 20ns This is a good upgrade ? Other suggests ? |

What purpose is served by this? The original design is adequate and you gain nothing by replacing a perfectly good diode. In some cases, a faster diode is not a good thing but I believe this circuit operates at power line frequency so speed is immaterial for the most part. Perhaps the forward drop with bigger diodes will be a few millivolts less but that amount is lost when you are rectifying 50 Volts or so.

I think the thread starter referred to the common experience of many of us that Schottkys or fast recovery diodes in the power supply of audio equipment frequently change to sound for the better.
