Overdriving (or overclocking) components

would it be possible to push a semiconductor (a transistor etc.) past its current limit if you could keep it cool enough? this wouyld not be so different from overclocking computers by keeping the processor cool.

Matt that happens all the time where a silicon chip is driven beyond its S.O.A. ......like any component it will allow you to do that so many times and it will not recover...this is a usual instance with diodes...in laymans terms you can only kick the cat so many times

Some datasheets show current falling off with increasing temperature. I would think it sufficiently beneficial if you could just maintain the max current by keeping the device below 70degC
