Does anybody have any suggestions for buying a commercial Turns Counter (to 5 digits) or how to build one myself? Thanks for your responses.

Take a cheap calculator and wire a sensor (a reed switch, perhaps) across the "=" button. Then press "1" and "+" and start using it.
Or you can build one using a PIC. But the calculator approach is probably as cheap as it gets.
