Motorola gold plated Germanium power device 2N176 and related types made for Motorola Car HiFi devices - used in single ended pure class A audio power output stages. This was complete new for me - very interesting fact. Also new for me was the fact, that several years still tubes was used for the AM/FM receicer part. The solid state parts are only to find for the power amp section and for the dc/dc converter (so called "hybrid" versions). Full transistorized/full solid state car radio devices first in the mid of the 60's cheaper than combination of transistors and tubes. I think, this and the appropriate HF behaviour was the main reason therefore.

Bendix Hybrid Car Radio - Solid State Audio Amp & Valve AM/FM Receiver; Bendix call them also "Pushbutton Radio" and "Travel Tuner" (new terms for me)
In opposite to Motorola's versions here I note, that the solid state output stages are push pull but also not OTL. Very interesting is the mounting place of the TO-3 power device. The brand "Bendix" in German is very rare and hard to find. Bendix, more pics. No transistor (power devices) databooks to find. Who can post some cover pics?

this transistor works in a universal radio for travel/portable and car audio application, launched 1958 (one of the first fully Solid State radios - I think). German price 1958: approximately 500 DM
