Default Dual Step Attenuators

Has anyone experimented with using 2 Step attenuators, one for a course adjust and one for a fine adjust.

I'm looking at them and I don't think the 24 pos will be granular enough for volume control.

But using 2 you would get 576 different volume levels.

My old Sonic Frontiers SFL-2 had a switch beside the attenuator that toggled half steps - worked great.

See http://archive.anthemav.com/OldSitev1/pdf/sfl2.pdf, page 8, "S".

Would anyone have a schematic for that?
