I have some very nice knobs for ribbed shaft potentiometers. I just have no good potentiometers to go with them! All I ever get is either completely odd valued ribbed shaft ones (250K lin) or smooth shaft pots. Where in the world can I get some good ribbed shaft pots for volume regulation, like 50K log stereo?
Or is there a way to graft the ribbed shafts from broken pots onto the smooth shafters? |

Using some kind of epoxy or superglue should do it, I think

Hmmm.... I think you gave me an idea there! I'm going glue the ribbed shaft into a rubber hose, then glue the smooth shaft into the other side of the hose. I have some Old EFI fuel hoses around that should do the trick. After cleaning, though....

If the ribbed hole is bigger than the shaft I would use a piece of brass shim, like a sleeve around the shaft (available in auto body supply shops), if the shaft is bigger I would drill-out the knob. Either way you will need to install a set-screw to hold the knob to the shaft. E

This is actually a much cleaner solution than that fuel hose stuff I came up with. The smooth shafts and the ribbed shafts both measure 6mm.
Hopefully I'm not destroying those nice knobs while converting them. |

Another suggestion would be to add a few layers of shrink tubing to the pot shaft until the knob fits snugly and doesn't slip anymore. This will keep the integrity of both the knobs and pots intact.
