If a schematic uses a 22k resistor, 1uf capacitor and a 1000uf capacitor....
Does it matter what type of resistor or capacitor is used ie ceramic or electrolytic? Also if there is no +/- direction, do i need capacitors with no +/- or is it just a case of put it in anyway? I know they may be dumb questions to some of you guys, but when it comes to electronics I am pretty dumb! |

hello.
what schematic is it? if it is the schematic of a gainclone (lm 3886 or so.......) the 1000uf is an electrolytic and the 1uf (parallel?) is a film/foil cap (mkt,mkp,.......). greetings |

A resistor don't have polarity - power tolerance may be an issue, depending on how much current is passed through that resistor.
A 1 uF capacitor can be non polarized or polarized i.e. electrolytic of some sort. A 1000 uF cap will usually be electrolytic - although 1000 uF non polarized do exist, the will likely be the size of a shoe box....... There are at least 12 different types of capacitors that I can think of, just off the top of my head. Given the very basic nature of your questions - may I suggest you google basic electronic parts - or buy a good textbook in basic electronics. It can be a fine hobby and passtime - but please make some effort in learning the very basics first... Otherwise all the good people of this forum will usually answer your questions.......... heads up

Hi littlerick
have a read here........ Capacitors It shows the two capacitor symbols, polarised and non polarised and explains the difference. Watch this short video to see why it is very important you know which way round to put them. YouTube - Exploding capacitor You wouldn't want to be bent over that when it went bang. John |

mjf... I wasnt talking of any particular schmatic, just in general.
AuroraB... I've been googling and reading quite a lot, but as a complete new comer it is very confusing to say the least. I have been looking at schematics and comparing pcb's to try and understand, these are just bits I am unclear on as there seems to be lots of different types of resistors and capacitors. I have books on order, and a bookmark list of huge proportions. john... I have the page bookmarked... WOW to the expoding vid.. I had a vision of one going "pop", thats more of a "KAPOP" Thanks for info guys. |
