Default Fake metal film resistors?

Has anyone ever come across carbon film caps which are repainted in order to look like metal films?

I found this auction selling a resistor selection pack:
50 Value 1/4W UniOhm Metal Film Resistor 5% 1000x RoHS - eBay (item 250553061962 end time Dec-30-09 20:13:38 PST)

It seems that they are claiming that other less honest sellers are selling rebadged resistors:

Now, I'm not really sure how much notice to take of this... Has anyone here bought some cheap resistors only to find that they aren't metal films?

I'm planning to use these resistors for a ladder stepped attenuator, FWIW...

I'm thinking carbon films have not only a >lot< higher Tc, but their slope is the reverse of metal films.

But metal films are commonly 1% tolerance and 100 ppm Tc or better; if the part is only 5% and no Tc is specified, I wouldn't bother with it on general principle.

It was already clear that they are fake - the price says it all

That's easy to find out. Simply break one open, then you can see what they're made of.

Due my very bad experience with counterfeit Chinese components, I always go to Farnell, Mouser, Digikey, Partsconnexion for real and genuine components.

Obviously. I just doubt that any of the satisfied customers have actually done this.

Me too but at least one of the suppliers in your list has been involved in distributing fakes. Life is no longer so simple

... and they have recognised this and all buyers got money back. Sounds fair to me.
But when you sell fake, demonstrating that others sell fake ...

I know is hard, but my advice is to avoid made in China components.

You guys gotta get a grip.

Why would you want the hassle of getting sub standard resistor, to save a few pennies?

If you really think it's worth the effort, buy a few, brake one open, and see what's inside.

It's really that simple, and should not be a topic to spend much time at.
